A MIRACLE Happened When They Refused to Give Up on This Teen
He fought another student, threw rocks, damaged a staff member’s vehicle, and eventually faced the court system. But the people caring for him made a decision that would shape far more than one difficult season: they would not give up on him.
Chestnut Mountain Ranch is a Christ-centered home and school in Morgantown, West Virginia, serving at-risk middle and high school boys who have often experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, family instability, and destructive choices. Its mission extends beyond changing a student’s behavior—the ministry works with the entire family through counseling, relationships, education, outdoor experiences, and long-term support.
Program Manager Bradley Cloud Filter shares the story of one young man whose anger and destructive behavior could easily have ended his time at the Ranch. Instead, consistent love, accountability, discipleship, and even time spent fly fishing helped break down barriers. Bradley remembers seeing something new in the young man while standing in a stream: peace.
That young man eventually came to Christ. His mother and father came to Christ. His siblings came to Christ. Years later, the family remains involved in a local church.
