The Importance of Tolerance and Generosity in the Human Services World

Steve Finn talks about the importance of incorporating both tolerance and generosity in the human services world.

Steve is the Founder and Executive Director of Chestnut Mountain Ranch in Morgantown, West Virginia. Steve was born in West Virginia but moved to Georgia as a teenager after the death of his father.

At the age of 21 he became a police officer, where he served for the next 12 years. Steve and his wife Dawn left their careers and became house-parents at a boys’ home called Eagle Ranch, just north of Atlanta.

There they witnessed lives being changed and families restored. Gradually God gave them a vision for their own Boy’s Ranch. Everything pointed to West Virginia.

In 2005 they moved to Morgantown, West Virginia. In 2006 they purchased 224 acres.

In 2007 roads were started. In 2008 mission teams began to show up to help build roads and infrastructure. And finally in 2011 the first boys arrived.

Today there are two boy’s homes and a third near completion. There is a Family Life Center and Administration Building, a new Ranch School that is nationally accredited, staff homes, athletic areas, and a new Ranch Chapel is under construction.
